Chargers Recent News

Today marks the third day that teams can sign free agents. Teams were allowed to agree to terms with any free agent since Tuesday, but could not sign them till Friday. As soon as 3 PM came on Friday, the Chargers made moves very fast. Vincent Jackson signed his $11 million franchise tag, linebacker Takeo Spikes was signed for three years, safety Bob Sanders was signed for one year, and linebacker Travis Laboy for two years. San Diego’s main concerns for free agency were to re-sign their own free agents they could afford, and add linebacker, receiver, and quarterback depth.

Billy Volek was retained on a 2 year, $6 million contract. Volek has been in San Diego for the last five years. He is considered to be one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league. Yes, if he does have to play in Rivers’ absence, the Chargers will not be in great shape. But, with Volek, they are in better shape than with any other backup quarterback around the league. He also brings leadership to the team, whether it’s at practice, or on the sidelines at games. San Diego’s insurance policy remains with the return of Volek.

Today was the day that the new Charger players picked their numbers.

All the Chargers’ draft picks have been signed with the exception of none other than first round pick Corey Liuget. Coaches feel Liuget is a very smart player, and missing the first couple of practices should not affect him. Both sides feel the contract should be figured out very soon.

Tight End Antonio Gates and Linebacker Larry English are still on the physically unable to perform list. Gates was seen on the sideline running sprints at practice today. It was said that he was running much harder, and cutting more today than yesterday. Both are showing progression. I doubt either of them will compete in any preseason games. Gates is one of the most valuable players not only on the team, but in the NFL as well. English has not yet lived up to the expectations, but there is still potential in him if he stays healthy.

Many have been saying that Ryan Mathews is out of shape. He was seen in the locker room huffing and puffing after a hard workout. When Mathews was asked about his struggles, he had this to say.

“My cardio is real good; I don’t get tired, It’s the speed work. I haven’t been doing much speed work like that. There’s a couple things I probably should have done differently in the offseason, like conditioning my legs.”

Malcom Floyd is the only remaining free agent the Chargers have interest in re-signing. To do so, the price he wants will have to drop, a lot. Arizona and Minnesota are reportedly interested in him, but no deal has been offered yet. There is a chance, a very slight chance, that Floyd stays in San Diego. If he doesn’t, the Chargers will be looking at adding another veteran receiver.

As of now, San Diego’s linebackers are Antwan Barnes, Shaun Phillips, Donald Butler, Takeo Spikes, Travis Laboy, and Jonas Mouton. There are other linebackers on the roster as of now, but are not a for sure lock to make the team. Kevin Acee from the San Diego Union Tribune says that he expects the Chargers to go after another veteran linebacker and receiver in free agency.
The first injury happened at practice today. Antoine Cason will have to have surgery on his knuckles after a bang bang play with Patrick Crayton. The length of his injury cannot be determined yet. More news to come.

Fullback Kenny Younger was signed to the team today. He has been impressing coaches left and right. Norv Turner still says Hester is our guy, but what Younger is showing us, is too hard to pass up.
Former Chargers linebackers Brandon Siler and Antwan Applewhite found new homes today. Applewhite will be in San Francisco this season, and Siler will be seeing his former team twice a year in Kansas City.

The Chargers have slowed down in the market these last two days, but don’t count them out just yet. As mentioned earlier, San Diego will be looking for a receiver and linebacker. No names have been mentioned yet. Expect them to wait for Floyd to make his decision before they make any of their own.

New Era

Last season, the Chargers led the NFL in both offense and defense. Given both, they had a better chance at repeating their offensive success rather than their defensive this season. This was all before free agency started.

San Diego isn't known for signing top free agents. The only free agents they usually sign are their own, with an exception of a couple. This year was a little different. Twenty-four free agents the Chargers had to make decisions on. As expected, Darren Sproles was bound to exit. He agreed to a four year contract with the Saints joining former quarterback Drew Brees. Kevin Burnett was thought to stay, but asked for too much money. Miami, on the other hand, gave him what he wanted. Other players that will not be with the Chargers this year are Buster Davis, Donald Strickland, Brandon Lang, Jyles Tucker, and Kris Wilson. Malcom Floyd is not expected to stay with San Diego. He wants more money than what the Chargers will give him.

Not all the Chargers free agents are leaving. Mike Tolbert, Antwan Barnes, Jacques Cesaire, Jeromey Clary, Randy McMichael, Scott Mruczkowski, and Kelley Washington will all be in blue and yellow jerseys next season. Same goes for top tackling safety Eric Weddle. San Diego signed him for five years, $40 million. He will be the highest paid safety ever in the NFL. Many have been saying that he was overpaid for his potential. The truth of the matter is, there was no safeties in free agency better than him, or could replace him. He also took less, yes less money to stay a Charger. Just potential? I don't think so. Eric Weddle's contract wasn't even San Diego's biggest storyline. Vincent Jackson, the player who held out most of last year to prove he wouldn't give in to not getting the money wanted. As soon as the NFL season ended, San Diego franchised VJ. On Friday, Jackson signed his $11 million franchise tender. He says he would still play for the Chargers on a long term contract. Now he has to prove to management he deserves it. 

San Diego did what they thought was best by releasing the players unneeded, and re-signing the players that are vital to the team, hence Eric Weddle, Vincent Jackson, Mike Tolbert, etc. A.J. Smith didn't stop there. Bob Sanders, Takeo Spikes, and Travis Laboy are now Chargers. Sanders came at a low price due to his injury problems. He only played in three games the last two seasons. When he is healthy though, Sanders is one of the most elusive safeties in the league, up there with Ed Reed. Takeo Spikes comes from San Francisco along with new defensive coordinator Greg Manusky. Spikes may be older than most linebackers, but what he brings to the team is leadership. He has a fiery attitude. Every team needs a player on defense like him. San Diego had Junior Seau, then Shawne Meriman, and now Takeo Spikes. Travis Laboy is another outside linebacker/defensive end from San Francisco. Last year, Laboy was a specialized player. He isn't a great coverage linebacker, more of pass rusher and run stopper. Manusky liked his talent, so we'll see what he can bring to the table. 

The Chargers have scored pretty big in free agency this year, and aren't finished yet. They should be looking for more linebacker help, a veteran quarterback to aid Philip Rivers, and a decent number two receiver. Let's take a look at the Chargers depth chart. 

Offense. Philip Rivers behind the entire offensive line from last season, including pro bowl guard Marcus McNeil the entire season. He will be handing the ball off to a healthy, explosive Ryan Mathews and a pounding Mike Tolbert. I imagine rookie Jordan Todman will be in for pass plays. Speaking of passing, Rivers will have his favorite target Vincent Jackson back this year. Also, he will hopefully have a healthy Gates, healthy Crayton, veteran Kelly Washington, speedy newcomer Vincent Brown, and second year veteran Seyi Ajirotutu. Look for A.J. to add another receiver this free agency. Owens? Moss?

Defense. Takeo Spikes in the middle of a prime Shaun Phillips, Antwan Barnes, Larry English, and Travis Laboy. Another linebacker could be added to the mix as well. Former Packer Nick Barnett would be a great fit. Our front line should be as a good as ever. Led by Antonio Garay coming off of a fantastic year, with Luis Castillo storming the outside, and first round pick Corey Liuget using his size and speed on the other side. Our front line could be the best in the NFL. Now our DB's. Antoine Cason, who isn't a playmaker like Cromartie, but more consistent on a weekly basis will be on one side. On the other, is long term cornerback Quentin Jammer. In my opinion, Jammer is one of the most underrated players in the league. But here's the best part. Behind the entire defense will be Eric Weddle and Bob Sanders. How does that sound? Sanders will make the coverage better with his experience, while Spikes will make the linebackers better with his experience. The defense is going nowhere but up.

Special Teams. This one, I'm not so sure who will be on coverage and who won't. All I know, is there is no possible way San Diego can get worse on special teams. Patrick Crayton and Antoine Cason have been splitting reps on punt returns at practice. Richard Goodman and Marcus Gilchrist are sharing reps on kickoff returns at practice as well. This is all because of the loss of Darren Sproles, who had no kickoff or punt return touchdowns last year anyways. Crayton has returned punts before, and holds on to the ball very secure. Goodman returned some kicks last season, and in preseason, and he showed incredible speed. Same with defense, special teams can only get better.

As long as the Chargers hold onto the ball on offense, stay healthy, and fix their special teams issues, we could be looking at another championship contending team. Five years ago, San Diego was a run first team with LaDainian Tomlinson. Phillip Rivers was just emerging into a starting quarterback, and our defense was still trying to figure things out. Tomlinson was released before last season, and that's when the new era started. The Philip Rivers era. He makes things happen, whether he's passing to top notch receivers, or guys who wouldn't even make other teams' practice squads.

The Chargers are their own enemies. They play in one of the worst divisions in the league, and with their talent, they should be winning that division every season. This should be a great year to be a Chargers fan. Mathews is set to break out, Jackson has something to play for, Weddle is set to prove why he's worth the money, Spikes is ready to play for a contender, and Sanders wants to get back to his old self. Not to mention the coaches. What Greg Manusky and Rich Bissacia bring to San Diego is energy. They fire the players up, and get them going and working hard. Norv Turner has also had an effect by just watching them. I'm ready to watch them play, how about you guys?

Time to Sign

It's finally Friday. Yes, we heard you Rebecca Black. Today is the day teams can officially sign the players that have agreed to contracts. They can also sign the other free agents left in the league. When something big happens, it will be on this article.

Yesterday, the Texans signed cornerback Jonathan Joseph. That takes them out of the running at Nnamdi Asomugha. Believe it or not, the remaining teams looking at signing him are the New York Jets and the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones is known for reeling in players. Someone once said he could talk a cat off of a fish truck. If Nnamdi goes to New York, they would have the top two CB's in the league on each side. If he decides to sign today, I'll post it here to let you know.

The Dolphins sign quarterback Matt Moore. This takes the Kyle Orton trade away. Sorry Tebow, it's just not your year. Already.

Speaking of Denver, Willis McGahee will be in a Bronco jersey this next season.

Osi Umenyiora skips training camp practice, and threatens to hold out.

Safety Dawan Landry agrees to sign with Jacksonville on a five year contract.

The Nnamdi Asomugha wait is over. Scratch the Niners, scratch the Texans, scratch the Jets. All that's left is the Cowboys right? WRONG. Nnamdi signs with the Philadelphia Eagles for 5 years for $60 million.

Offseason Day 3

McNabb will be in Minnesota next year, while Sidney Rice will be in Seattle. Matt Hasselbeck in Tennessee, Weddle stays in San Diego, and the Jets re-sign Holmes. Today is a new day. Many things are expected to happen around the league today, including Vince Young being released. Kevin Kolb could be traded today. Here's some of the headlines for today.

The Bengals lock up their first round pick A.J. Green by agreeing to terms.

Washington clears up cap room by trading DT Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots for a 5th round pick in 2013.

Adam Podlesh is the first punter that agrees to terms, joining the Chicago Bears for 5 years.

The Asomugha train continues, stopping in New York, San Francisco, Houston, and maybe even Dallas. The Jets are considered he front runners for him because they are still $10 million under the salary cap.

Reggie Bush heads to Miami on a two year contract. He knew his time was up when he tweeted.

DE Jason Babin agrees to terms with Philadelphia for 5 years.

Rumors have been going around that WR Steve Smith (Panthers) wants to be traded. He made it clear today that he wants to be a panther for life.

CB Nate Clements has been released from the 49ers. They could be trying to make a run at Asomugha.

Jets agree to a contract to retain K Nick Folk.

Washington stays at it, signing DE Stephen Bowen on a 5 year, $27.5 million deal.

Kevin Kolb is officially a Cardinal. 5 years, $63 million. Many have been saying that Eric Weddle was overpaid. Kevin Kolb has only started 7 games and will make about 12 million a year. It's either going to be a hit or bust. Larry Fitz should be happy.

Probably the biggest move of the day. New England doesn't stop with Haynesworth, they go even bigger. They have agreed to terms with Chad Ochocinco for three years. The bigger news, will Aaron Hernandez give up number 85 for him?

The little Lightning Bug of San Diego, Darren Sproles, agrees to terms with the Saints. 4 years, $14 million.

Vince Young has agreed to terms to join the Eagles. His role is back to second string.

TE Greg Olsen from the Bears was traded to the Panthers for a draft pick.

Texans and CB Jonathan Joseph reach agreement on a five year deal. Time to take them out of the Asomugha talks.

Packers RB Brandon Jackson agrees to join the Browns. He will be sharing carries with Madden's cover star Peyton Hillis.

David Akers will be kicking the ball in San Francisco next season.

Just released WR Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys agrees to terms with the Chicago Bears.

Offseason Day 2

Day 1 went the way everyone predicted, busy. Many big names were released yesterday and are now looking for a new team. Other players were contacted and contracts were discussed. Rumors led up to today, and like I mentioned in yesterdays article, expect even bigger for today. That indeed, did happen. 

The Houston Texans re-signed Jacoby Jones for three more years, $10.5 Million. 

Matt Hasselbeck has been reported to have agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. 

Mason Crosby has agreed to a deal with the Packers for five years.

Washington, a very busy team today, started early. They agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Donte Stallworth for one year. Quarterback Kellen Clemens also agrees to a one year deal as well. They also shipped DE Jeremy Jarbon to Denver for WR Jabar Gaffney. Let's add another receiver. Brandon Stokely agrees to a one year deal. Not done yet. Washington agrees to terms with former Ravens CB Josh Wilson on a 3 year, $13.5 million deal.

Carolina got right back to work today reaching agreements with several players. Defensive end, Ron Edwards joins the Panthers on a 3 year, $8.25 million deal. DeAngelo Williams was expected to leave Carolina, but nope, he's staying. They agreed to terms on a five year, $43 million deal. Spending large, the Panthers agreed to terms with kicker Olindo Mare for 4 years worth $12 million. That wasn't it, they also agreed to terms with TE Ben Hartsock for 2 years. 

The Jets were expected to re-sign either Braylon Edwards or Santonio Holmes. New York wasted little time. Holmes reached agreement for 5 years, $50 million. Setting the bar for other teams, very high.

Atlanta reached an agreement with linebacker Stephan Nicholas on a five year deal.

Center David Baas agrees to terms with the Giants. They also will release defensive tackle Rocky Bernard.

San Diego's first move of the day was signing rookie Jonas Moutan. He was the first second round pick to sign with his respected team. Next on the TO-DO list was re-signing Eric Weddle. Up to nine teams were offering him, but he stayed a Bolt agreeing to a 5 year, $40 million deal. He will now be the highest paid safety ever in the NFL. Weddle said that he was offered even more from another team, but turned it down to stay in San Diego.

Chris Johnson, Desean Jackson, and Frank Gore are all expected to hold out on their teams during training camp. 

QB Jake Delhomme was released by the Browns. He says he wants to keep playing. 

Guard Robert Gallery reunites with Tom Cable in Seattle on a three year deal. 

Speaking of reuniting, Matt Leinart and Pete Carroll will not be. Houston re-signs Leinart for two years worth $5.5 million.

Former Raider QB Bruce Gradkowski is heading to Cincinnati on a two year contract.

Buffalo agrees to terms with CB Drayton Florence. 3 years, $15 million.

Indianapolis re-signs K Adam Vinitieri and S Melvin Bullitt. 

Drew Stanton agrees to a one year deal to stay with the Lions.

The 49ers jump into things, signing DE Ray McDonald for 5 years, $20 million.

One of the biggest headlines of the day was Vikings receiver Sidney Rice agreeing to terms with the Seattle Seahawks. His contract will be 5 years, $44 million.

Cardinals receiver Steve Breaston decides to join former coach Todd Haley in Kansas City on a five year deal. 

Minnesota may have lost Rice, but they gained a quarterback. Donovan McNabb is officially a Viking. Trending on twitter, ESPN's Scott Shapiro had this to say about the trade. 

"The Vikings just got 7 years younger at QB....by bringing in a 34 year-old!! @AdamSchefter Donovan McNabb trade to Minnesota now official."

Referring to Brett Favre.

Washington and Carolina were the most active teams today. Even more will happen tomorrow, check back here later on to find out. Tomorrow, teams can officially release players.

Lebron vs. Kobe

Yes, it's not basketball season. Yes, this a over run subject. But someone just needs to state the facts. Someone needs to show people the truth. I'm writing this article because someone posted a picture. This one.

Truth? Somewhat. Funny? To Laker Fans. The team that has SO much trouble trying to beat Lebron and whatever team he is on. I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say a Laker fan made this.

Here's my opinion on why Lebron is better. Forget Jordan. We'll save that for some other time. Know that I'm a fan of Lebron. Not by who he is, what he does off the court, but by the way he plays. By the way he sets records for ESPN. By his love for the game. By the way he takes less money to go after championships. Less money. The whole reason we are in this NBA lockout, money issues. But anyways, as much as you may think I'm biased towards Lebron, I'm really not. I state facts and what no body thinks about. Most people who get mad, and tell me otherwise to what I say, are Laker fans. Here we go.

Some people's reason for hating Lebron is because of his off-court problems. He had "The Decision", the show he announced he was going to Miami. The way he did it, he'd take it back. Why he did it, that's another story. They had the pre-season party. "Not one, not two...." He'd take it back as well. He'll mature. He's also said some questionable things to the media, and fans. But really? If you were getting criticized by fans over and over again throughout the year, you would do the same. So you're thinking, Kobe wins this category. Wrong. Kobe has ran his mouth plenty of times. He was actually fined this year for a gay slur towards a ref. Yeah, players curse all the time. Not at refs. Kobe did. He paid. But that was on court right? Yeah, it was. So no off court problems? Oh no, there is one. Remember back in 2003, when Kobe was accused of rape? So off court and legal problems. The girl could have just been looking for attention, but hey, it was bigger than what Laker fans made of it. On to the next one.

On court issues. Lebron James may have switched teams. He may have left his hometown to chase championships, but he has never pushed a player, or coach off the team he is on. Kobe, on the other hand, did. By the summer of 2004, Kobe and Shaq had been in a feud. So bad, Shaq left. Phil Jackson didn't want to coach Kobe and his attitude at that time, so he left. Yes he came back, but that's not the point. He's also been caught on video saying that the Lakers should have shipped Andrew Bynum away from the team. Lebron left his team. But he never brings trouble onto his team like Kobe did, and does. Kobe has a very big attitude. Good luck without Phil Jackson.

I understand when people get mad at Lebron for the way he left Cleveland, but not the reason. There was no point to stay. They weren't winning a championship there, so might as well leave. Kobe tried the same thing in 2007. He told manager Jerry Bus that he wanted to be traded from the franchise. He didn't and they brought Phil Jackson back. But again, that's not the point. The point is, he wanted out. The same as what Lebron did. Yet, Lebron KNEW there was no hope in Cleveland and that organization.

Better offensive? Kobe or Lebron. While Kobe scores at a non stop rate, hitting clutch shot after clutch shot, Lebron is doing it all. Whether it is scoring inside or outside, dishing assists, offensive rebounding, he does everything! Kobe is a better shooter. Kobe is more clutch. But Lebron is more athletic, faster, stronger, smarter. He is still young, he will develop what Kobe developed, that killer instinct. To make the final basket to win the game. It will come. Did you watch the Heat Celtics series? Or the Heat Bulls series? Just a preview of what Lebron could really do once he gets that instinct. Back to the offensive game. Lebron reads the court better than most point guards. He can make passes that only say, Steve Nash can make. Every NBA Finals Kobe has been to, his second and even third leading scorer on the team, were at least decent. Lebron's NBA Finals in Cleveland? Not even close. Lebron James led the Cavs the the finals with Larry Hughes and Eric Snow as the other leading scorers on the team. Think about it this way. Kobe, Shaq, and Horry vs. Lebron, Hughes, and Snow. Really Laker Fans? Lebron can't lead a team? Come on now. Hold on hold on. Kobe, Gasol, and Odom vs. Lebron, Hughes, and Snow. Better? Not really. Do you see what I'm getting at? Kobe has been benefited with not only having one of the best coaches in NBA history, but also arguably the best post player in NBA history for the three-peat and then one of the better post players for the two most recent titles. Yes, Lebron failed to win the championship. But Kobe wouldn't been able to do it with those guys either, let alone get that far. Anyways, Lebron has never averaged under six assists per game in any season of his career. Kobe, on the other hand, has never averaged above six assists in any season. Kobe might be able to win games, but when he's in a slump, he's not one to will his team into winning those games. Lebron is an offensive facilitator, and Kobe isn't. Kobe is a dominant scorer, and clutch shooter. Those two aspects, he's better than Lebron. But overall offense, Lebron wins that battle.

Now let's talk about individual success. James has gotten more individual success than Kobe in less time.

Kobe Bryant, first 8 years. Averaged over 25 ppg only three of the years. Never shot above 47%.
Lebron James, first 8 years. Averaged over 25 ppg in seven of the years. Shot 50% and above in two.

It took Kobe over a decade to receive a MVP. It took Lebron eight years to receive two. When you talk about the first eight years of each player. Kobe has the rings to show his teams success. But Lebron has the stats, and trophies to show HIS success.

For career stats:

Lebron James: 27.7 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 7 APG, and 0.8 BPG.

Kobe Bryant: 25.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.7 APG, and 0.5 BPG.

 See how Lebron is better in every category? And yes, Kobe only played seven games in his first two years, but that just shows that Lebron was better at the early stages right from high school, and still is.

I didn't even mention that Lebron is a way better finisher around the rim. Kobe shows off his hops every once in a while now a days. But a couple years ago, he was dunking a lot. The difference is the power. Ask any player in the league. Who would you want running full speed at you? Lebron or Kobe? Which to dunk on you? Which to post you up? All the answers would be Kobe. Lebron is much more physical than Kobe, which leads to his scoring in the paint. That leads to his defensive skills as well. He is a versatile defender in and outside the paint. He has a signature chase down block. Kobe rarely makes defensive plays.

As much as you can say that Kobe has the rings, all that matters. What your saying is Kobe has had a better team success than Lebron has had over their careers. What you don't mean, is Kobe is better than Lebron. After what I just covered, what I just showed you in this article, you know Lebron is a better player. Move the rings aside from Kobe, you have no argument. Lebron doesn't even have a ring, and there is an argument for why he is better. Most Laker fans will never say Lebron is better. Most Heat fans will never say Kobe is better. Everything in this article are facts and overlooked things. Lebron is still young, he's got time. Lebron is an all around better player than Kobe. He has more individual success, and the stats are better. He gets his teammates involved in games, and Kobe doesn't. Last checklist.

Offseason Day 1

The 2011 NFL season is officially underway. Trading period began today, along with teams being allowed to negotiate with free agents, and sign rookies. Every NFL team can discuss a contract with any free agent player, but cannot officially sign him until Friday. As predicted, the first day of the off season is moving quite fast, and teams are making very big decisions.

Many players have reported to be released, re-signed, and discussed in a trade today. Here are some of the rumored things that have happened so far. 

Seattle Seahawks cut ties with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. They are reported to have signed two quarterbacks to round their edges, Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Leinart. Pete Carroll might be reuniting with his former USC quarterback.   

The Cincinnati Bengals have made it clear that they will not trade quarterback Carson Palmer. As said before, Palmer is ready to retire.

Desean Jackson might pull a Vincent Jackson and hold out from the Eagles until he gets the contract he feels he deserves. Michael Vick had this to say about the situation.

"I spoke to DeSean yesterday, and we're trying to figure out what's going to happen. Hopefully he'll be here tomorrow. DeSean just has to think about it and has some decisions to make that only himself can make.''

The Dallas Cowboys made very big decisions today. Sources say they have released WR Roy Williams, RB Marion Barber, G Leonard Davis, and K Kris Brown. Many think that Jerry Jones is freeing up cap room to sign a big name free agent like say, Nnamdi Asomugha. That's as big of name as you can find this year.

The Minnesota Vikings have been in discussion with the Washington Redskins about a trade for quarterback Donovan McNabb. They have also reached an agreement with Bears former receiver Devin Aromashodu.

Big news in New York, and no, not from Rex Ryan and the Jets. According to team sources, the Giants are discussing a potential Plaxico Burress return. BANG! You'd laugh if you know what I'm talking about. 

Santana Moss and the Redskins have been reported that they have reached a three year deal worth $15 million. 

Vincent Jackson made headlines today, shocker. Jackson will report to camp on Friday, and sign his franchise tag. 

The Rams have reached an agreement with safety Quintin Mikell on a four year deal. 

New England Patriot's Logan Mankins will report to training camp on time. They will also be releasing LB Tully Banta-Cain.

ESPN reports that the Packers have told LB Nick Barnett they will try and trade him. If they do not trade him, he will be released into free agency.

Undrafted quarterback Pat Devlin from Delaware signed with the Dolphins. The Colts and Raiders were said to be interested as well. 

Brett Favre might be coming back, again, again, and again. The only team rumored to be interested is the Philadelphia Eagles. They could use a backup quarterback.

Speaking of the Eagles and quarterbacks, Kevin Kolb has not been traded yet. That is actually a surprise to many.

DE Charles Johnson re-signs with the Panthers in a 6 year, 72 million dollar deal. 

The Jaguars have agreed to terms with 24, yes twenty-four undrafted rookies.

Staying in that same division, the Titans have agreed to terms with 14 undrafted rookies.

The Ravens have told Derrick Mason, Willis McGahee, Kelly Gregg, and Todd Heap they will be released.

San Diego waited no time. They re-signed Jeremy Clary for four more years, and Randy McMichael was re-signed for another year as well. The biggest news they made was agreeing to terms with LB Takeo Spikes. With Spikes, veteran leadership will be added to the bolts defense. Bob Sanders also agreed to terms with the Chargers as expected before the lockout.

The Jets have been reported to have interest in Nnamdi Asomugha. Would you believe that?! Darelle Revis on one side, Nnamdi Asomugha on the other. Good luck quarterbacks.
